How many days should I do Pilates?

A question I get all the time. Honestly, one time a week plus your other modalities is great. That is 100% more than you were doing last week. However, 2-3 times a week in my experience you will start to see noticeable changes. There’s no greater feeling than to actually feel your abs on your waistline. Isn’t that what we are after?

What would Joseph Pilates say? He was the creator after all! In his book “Return to Life through Contrology” Pilates writes, ” If you will faithfully perform your contrology {pilates} exercises regularly only four times a week for just three months, you will find your body development approaching the ideal, accompanied by renewed mental vigor and spiritual enhancement.”

At 416 Pilates I design my Pilates Mat, Pilates Reformer and BODHI body classes to work opposing muscle groups, including stabilization and activation of the muscles throughout the back and core. Balanced movements including flexion, extension and rotation are of the most importance.  So really you could do pilates any day of the week.

What do I do? I work in 3 reformer sessions accompanied by a minimal 1 pilates mat and BODHI body workout per week.

“Movement is medicine” ~ Joseph Pilates

I truly believe every word of that especially if my body is tired or sore. So the choice is up to you on how much you wish to do. Listen to your body but never take too much time off. I look forward to seeing you at the studio!
